The company that will build the kilometer-high Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia has restarted work and identified contractors. After restarting the construction of Jeddah Tower, 14 firms are competing to finish Jeddah’s highest tower.
The program, according to a source with knowledge of it, was “back in full motion” and covered by the news outlet MEED.
The Jeddah Economic Company (JEC) is a group headed by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, the grandson of Abdulaziz al-Saud, the founding monarch of Saudi Arabia.
In 2014, His Kingdom Holding Company assembled a consortium of financiers to begin building a tower that would stand about a kilometer tall. Kingdom Tower was its former moniker.
Before construction was halted in January 2018, the tower was roughly one-third finished. Labor disputes were the cause of the ban following Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s 2017–19 purge of the nation.
MEED reports that Kingdom Holding Company has requested offers from service providers for a contract due by year’s end.
Five regional companies are vying for customers: Almabani, Bawani, El-Seif Engineering, Nesma & Partners, and Saudi Freyssinet.
China State Construction Engineering Corporation, PowerChina, and China Harbour, a division of China Communications, are three further Chinese contractors.
Hyundai Engineering Construction and Samsung C+T, the firms that constructed Dubai’s 828-meter-tall Burj Khalifa, are the country’s representatives. Skanska of Sweden and Strabag of Austria are the companies that represent Europe.
Mohammed Abdulmohsin al-Kharafi of Kuwait and Consolidated Contractors of Lebanon are also listed as potential candidates.

Three months to prepare proposals (14 firms are competing to finish Jeddah’s highest tower )
Builders have three months to organize JVs and bid. Each team needs one domestic and one foreign enterprise.
American architect Adrian Smith, who also designed the tower, also planned the Burj Khalifa, the largest building in the world at the moment.
The companies Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill and Dar al-Handasah, a Lebanese consulting engineer, are still supporting the project.
The company’s stockholders include Sharbatly Group (20%), Kingdom Holding Company (40%), and Bakhsh Group (40%).
The Jeddah Tower will be over 172 meters taller than the Burj Khalifa, according to MEED. The growth of Jeddah Economic City revolves around it. The project’s initial phase, which includes the main tower, spans 150ha.
