Previous Reports
Regular captain Kane Williamson’s return is New Zealand’s biggest news after a seven-month injury layoff. Bangladesh will hope their spinners affect their match against New Zealand.
New Zealand is enjoying India thus far. Following wins over Pakistan and South Africa in their two warm-up matches, the Black Caps overcame reigning champions England by nine wickets in the last 13 overs of their opening ODI World Cup 2023 contest. They then defeated the Netherlands by 99 runs to maintain their 10-team league undefeated record.
After a century against England, young Rachin Ravindra scored 50 against the Netherlands. Devon Conway and Ravindra dominated the Kiwis’ win over England, but their top five batters scored runs against the Dutch, boosting their confidence. Matt Henry has taken three wickets in two games, showing his skill. However, Mitchell Santner scored five runs in the Netherlands.
Bangladesh comfortably trounced Afghanistan after starting their campaign in Dharamsala. The ‘Bangla Tigers’ beat Hashmatullah Shahidi’s squad by six wickets in 15.2 overs for 156 runs. Both Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan took three wickets to deceive Afghan hitters. Shanto and the latter scored half-centuries in the second inning.
In their second encounter, England convincingly defeated Bangladesh. Jos Buttler and co. scored 364 runs before Bangladesh was bowled for 227. The Litton and Mushfiqur Rahim half-centuries did not stop the inevitable.
Spinners benefit from the low, sluggish Chepauk course. The Australia-India match was played here. Indian spinners controlled the first inning under the lights, while Australian pacers prevailed with the new ball. Bangladesh can bowl on a turn wicket since they have several spin bowlers. Devon Conway and Tom Latham, two superb spinners, will bat for New Zealand, but Sodhi and Santner will be crucial.
