Tuesday saw the death of veteran broadcaster, poet, and Sahitya Akademi laureate Mir Mohammad Farooq Nazki at a Katra hospital. He was eighty years old.
After a few years of health issues, Nazki moved in with his son in Jammu, according to family-friendly sources. On Monday night, he suffered a heart attack. His body was being moved from Jammu to Srinagar, where it will be interred at the Malkha cemetery on Wednesday.
He won the Sahitya Academi Award in Kashmiri in 1995 for his poetry book Naar Hyutun Kanzal Wanas, meaning “Fire in the Eyelashes.” At All India Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan, Nazki held several key posts. Media advice was also given to Omar and Farooq Abdullah, two chief ministers.
Many organizations have conveyed their grief over the passing of the well-known reporter.

He has left this role after making significant contributions. a loss that affects the person as well as the community.” Former minister Haseeb Drabu, the deceased’s son-in-law, wrote on X, “RIP Mir Mohammed Farooq Nazki (1940–2024).”
According to a tweet from All India Radio, Farooq Nazki, a well-known poet and broadcaster, former station director of Doordarshan Srinagar, Akashvani, and recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, passed away yesterday after a protracted illness.
Along with the station staff, the Deputy Director General (Engineering) and Cluster Head Akashvani Srinagar, Ajay Dohare, extend their condolences for his loss.
He is survived by a boy and two girls.
