By the end of the year, Turkish Airlines will begin offering service to Sydney. The airline now flies from Melbourne to Istanbul.
With flights flying “four days a week this year,” Turkish Airlines’ next destination is Sydney, chairman Professor Ahmet Bolat announced to the media after the airline’s inaugural aircraft from Istanbul to Melbourne arrived.
Turkish Airlines would provide 1-2-1 flatbed business class seats on either a Boeing 787 or an Airbus A350.
Following that, Turkish Airlines would be permitted to operate three flights per week to Melbourne and one flight per day to Sydney between the two cities.
Once the Star Alliance member receives new, longer-range Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, it plans to begin nonstop service to Sydney and Melbourne. For the Sydney-Istanbul flights, there will be a brief stopover in Singapore nonetheless.
Like it does in Melbourne, Turkey’s Airlines will operate the Sydney-Singapore and Singapore-Sydney segments of the Istanbul route. In the past, Bolat has described this as a “very important factor” for the Australian routes.
With Scoot, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines already offering service between Sydney and Singapore, passengers have even more options.
Turkish Airlines is aggressively entering the Australian market by enticing frequent travelers from Qantas and Virgin Australia to enroll in its Miles & Smiles reward program in exchange for a free status match.
By following this rapid road to Star Alliance Gold status, you can also get access to Turkey’s Airlines lounges, a higher baggage allowance, and other amazing frequent flyer advantages.
