Are Kyler Murray and Matthew Stafford off limits for the Vikings?
Following Kirk Cousins’ Achilles injury on Sunday, the Vikings have until 3 p.m. Tuesday to make a major quarterback deal, but news from Arizona and Los Angeles is mediocre.
The Cardinals are not shopping Kyler Murray, who has returned to practice and might start Arizona’s Week 10 game against the Atlanta Falcons, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

If the Vikings called, would Murray be available if they’re not “shopping” him? That’s unknown.
The Rams are reportedly considering placing Matthew Stafford on injured reserve after he suffered a thumb injury against Dallas on Sunday. The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue, who covers the Rams, reported on Monday that Stafford will undergo testing this week to determine his gripping ability.
Vikings Terms:
“Chillier conditions in [Green Bay] combined with a bye after are some details in consideration for the short term, but the Rams also are not ruling out injured reserve at this point as they are still gathering information that helps discern a larger timeline for Stafford,” Rodrigue posted to X (formerly Twitter).
Stafford’s contract and age largely disqualified him from consideration for the Vikings, but his thumb injury may change their views. Remember when O’Connell was the Rams’ offensive coordinator in 2021, when Stafford and the squad won the Super Bowl?
While Cousins is out, the Vikings must promote from within, trade, or sign a free agent quarterback. Some thoughts…
Vikings rookie quarterback Jaren Hall played 11 possessions after Cousins’ injury. They backup quarterback Nick Mullens is on IR for one more game. Would retired Tom Brady accept an offer? Unrestricted free agent Carson Wentz… Colt McCoy worked out with the Vikings. Ryan Tannehill: Would the Titans trade? Matt Ryan, although retiring, reportedly expressed interest in joining the Jets after Aaron Rodgers’ injury. 2017 seems like an eternity to Houston’s backup quarterback, Case Keenum. If the Vikings don’t trade or acquire a free agent, Hall and Mullens may play it out.
