Four Xbox-only games are being released by Microsoft exclusively for the PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. Before 2024, Microsoft might reveal the next Xbox console.

The four titles are more than a year old, according to Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft’s gaming division, in a video podcast with Xbox executives. Fi Rush and HelloSea of Thieves are obvious substitutes. The Indiana Jones game and Starfield are not cross-platform.

One significant shift is the sale of first-party games instead of Xbox hardware. Since 2001, PlayStations have outperformed Xboxes. Against the best-selling PlayStation 2, it was defeated 155 to 25. Sales-wise, the Xbox 360 finally lagged behind the PlayStation 3; however, this was only in 2005.

Sales of the PlayStation 4 increased when Xbox One’s core player base lost faith in it when it arrived digitally first in 2013. By the end of the generation, 57.6 million Xbox Ones and 117 million PS4s had been sold.

Microsoft said in 2017 that, for a fixed monthly charge, Xbox owners would have access to hundreds of titles via Game Pass. The website already has 34 million subscribers. Two years after launching with Xbox-only titles, the service expanded to include PC games.

Microsoft acquired Bethesda, the studio behind Fallout and the Elder Scrolls, for $7.5 billion in 2020; Mojang, the firm that created Minecraft, for $2.5 billion in 2014; and Activision Blizzard King for $68.7 billion in 2023 in order to expand its gaming industry. It also bought several smaller studios.

In response to Activision Blizzard’s historic acquisition, Xbox’s president Sarah Bond stated on Friday that Diablo IV will be added to Game Pass on March 28. After months of legal and regulatory wrangling, Microsoft promised to keep Activision Blizzard’s best-selling games, such as Call of Duty, available on other platforms.

Bond refuted rumors that Microsoft would stop producing consoles months ago. She mentioned that this Christmas, they will be sharing some strange items.
