Ollie Pope is currently participating in the first Test match between India and England in Hyderabad, India. He didn’t surrender a run during his amazing century.
Having dominated the second inning by 126 runs, England’s score of 316-6 at stumps on the third day of play was impressive.
Ollie Pope finished the game with 148 runs, while Rehan Ahmed could only muster a pathetic 16.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah grabbed the most wickets for the home team during the second innings.
Thanks to a stand of 112 runs between Pope and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes (34 runs), India were leading by 190 runs at the end of the first inning and were applying pressure to England at 163-5.
The Pope celebrated his first Test century against India and his sixth century overall by taking off his helmet and waving his bat in response to the applause. He has scored in his three runs against Ravindra Jadeja.
Pope’s back-and-forth sweeps strategy proved effective in countering India’s formidable spin attack.
After one stupid reverse sweep to the backward point on 110, he was able to escape Axar Patel’s grasp of Jadeja.
Axar’s left-arm spin on Foakes ended the alliance, but Ollie Pope sealed the victory with a 17-bout marathon knockout.
India entered the field with a 421-7 lead and was leading England by 246 runs in the first inning. The overnight players, Jadeja and Axar, started slowly, scoring only six runs in the first thirty minutes.
Root (4-79) bowled Bumrah the next ball after dismissing Jadeja, but Mohammed Siraj prevented Root from reaching a hat-trick.
With 87 points, Jadeja led the hosts in scoring.
The leg-spinner Ahmed dismissed Axar for 44 in the opening hour of play.
After suffering from acute knee discomfort while fielding for two days, spinner Jack Leach arrived at the field tightly wrapped. He had bowled just one over that morning.
