Adele is performing for the first time on the European mainland since 2016, using the phrase “a one-off, bespoke pop-up stadium.”
The superstar and Grammy winner will perform four Munich gigs in August. She announced on Instagram that she would not perform live again after her June Las Vegas residency and her 2022 Hyde Park engagement. She continued:
But the idea of a one-time-use pop-up stadium for my function was too appealing. Whoa!? Near Europe’s center? In Munich? Very unique, but great! Is this happening just after the European Championship? Come, England! Since the Olympics are coming, good job, Simone Biles! Some of my favorite musicians perform. Of course! This show has not been seen in Europe since 2016! Local shows are my favorite way to end my summer and career.
Stadiums have clamshell shapes with colorful borders and semi-circular B-stages. A smaller version of Adele’s Las Vegas stage. Adele debuted Weekends With Adele at Caesar’s Palace’s Colosseum in November 2022.
Adele is extremely involved with concert scheduling. The year prior, she unexpectedly cancelled the Vegas residency due to stage design issues that rendered it “very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy.”
An east London bespoke stadium hosts Abba’s virtual avatar-led Abba Voyage performances, another unique pop-up venue. Although the steel and timber building may be disassembled and rebuilt, its location remains uncertain after the successful London run.
After using 974 shipping containers, Stadium 974, a pop-up stadium for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, was dismantled. The International Cricket Council is developing a 34,000-seat pop-up stadium 25 miles east of Manhattan to host T20 World Cup matches to promote cricket in the US.
Adele’s Munich tickets go on sale February 7 and 9 after fans register by February 5.
