Afghanistan beat Pakistan for the first time in ODI history

Afghanistan beat Pakistan for the first time in ODI history of the World Cup. This was Afghanistan’s first win against Pakistan. Afghanistan have never defeated Pakistan in a World Cup match.

In the twenty-second match of the World Cup played in Chennai, India on Monday, Pakistan won the toss and batted first, scoring 282 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs.

In which captain Babar Azam scored the highest 74 runs, Abdullah Shafiq scored 58 runs. Shadab and Iftikhar added 40 to the team’s score. The hero of the match against Sri Lanka, Mohammad Rizwan could only score 7 runs against Afghanistan.


Noor Ahmad took the most wickets for Afghanistan. Noor Ahmed dismissed three players. While Naveen-ul-Haq scored 2 and Nabi and Azmatullah scored 1,1 each.

Afghanistan won the match by 8 wickets. Ibrahim Zardan top-scored for Afghanistan with 87. Rahman was 65. Afghanistan’s Hashmatullah Zadran and Rahmat Shah also scored half-centuries.

This was Afghanistan’s first ever win against Pakistan. This is also the third upset of the World Cup. Earlier, the same team from Afghanistan had defeated the defending champion, England. Scotland then defeated South Africa.

With the loss, Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semi-finals have been dented. This is Pakistan’s third consecutive defeat in the World Cup.

In the points table of the World Cup, India is at first with five wins, New Zealand is second with four wins, South Africa is at third with three wins, and Australia and Pakistan are at fourth and fifth position with two wins, respectively.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali scalped one wicket each.
