In a Saudi Pro League match that ended in a solitary goal on March 16, Al Nassr defeated Al Ahli away.

In the 68th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo finished from the bottom left corner of the penalty area to score his team’s third goal. That allowed his team to win the game.

After a careful inspection, the video assistant referee (VAR) concluded that Ronaldo had been standing the wrong way when he scored in the 42nd minute. The video assistant referee eventually disallowed the goal after Sadio Mane passed to Ronaldo on the right side of the pitch.

Despite being VAR’s 57th goal of the match, Al Ahli’s celebrations remained muted this time. Roberto Firmino scored the goal with a simple tap-in following Alana Saint-Maximin’s right-wing pass. But as time went on, it was clear that the decision was also flawed.

When the game started, Al Ahli seemed to be the more formidable of the two teams. After Riyad Mahrez took a corner kick in the 37th minute, Merih Demiral tried to score with a header, but the post stopped him, and the ball nearly hit the crossbar.

Roger Ibanez’s tackle on Al Najei led to a penalty kick for Al Nassr, who scored three points, despite Ahli’s valiant attempt to level the game. In the second half of the match, Nassr seized the lead and set the pace.

In the Saudi Pro League standings, Nassr is now nine points behind league leader Al Hilal.
