The news that an earthquake struck New Zealand with a magnitude of 6.0 today at 9.14 in the morning comes from New Zealand.
The earthquake occurred today at 9.14 a.m. (7.14 a.m. AEST), about 45 kilometers north of Geraldine, and at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the GeoNet database.
No reports of damage have been made, says Fire and Emergency New Zealand. New Zealand is not at risk from tsunamis, claims Civil Defense.

More than 14,338 people have made tremor-related claims on GeoNet, with the majority of those coming from the South Island.

11 of the reports gave the earthquake an “extreme” rating, and 169 gave it a “strong” rating. Since then, nine minor earthquakes in the South Island have occurred, with magnitudes ranging from two to four.
Ferguson Sail, a native of Timaru, was taking a course in civil engineering at the time of the earthquake.
