Apple to Release 2026 OLED MacBook Pro and MacBook Air

Earlier this week, Apple introduced its newest MacBook, which featured M3 chipsets, a new Space Black colour option, and a design that remained largely unchanged. A recent report asserts that Apple will introduce MacBooks with OLED displays in 2026.

Jeff Pu, an industry analyst at Haitong International Technology Research, authored the report. According to him, Apple will eventually replace the micro-LED displays on MacBooks with OLED panels on the subsequent display upgrade.

Following the more affordable MacBooks Air, the new displays will first be available on MacBook Pros. Nevertheless, the MacBook Air will receive OLED technology years after its Pro counterpart.

This is not the first time we have heard rumours regarding OLED MacBooks; Ross Young has also made similar assertions. Previous reports have indicated that Samsung Display will supply the OLED panels utilized in Appleā€™s forthcoming laptops.

Apple to Release 2026 OLED MacBook Pro and MacBook Air

The current iteration of 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models from Apple is equipped with mini-LED displays, an improvement over LCD screens but a technological lag behind OLEDs. In contrast, the MacBook Air continues to utilize LCD displays, and it seems that Apple has no intention of altering this practice for the next few years at the latest. However, it is possible that Apple will incorporate micro-LED technology into the MacBooks Air concurrently with the MacBook Pro.

When compared to LCD and mini-LED displays, the OLED display has a number of advantages, including deeper blacks and a greater contrast ratio. Smartphones manufactured by the company contain these. Additionally, its reduced power consumption contributes positively to battery efficiency. However, how the company will address screen burn-in from prolonged use is unknown.

Apple may add micro-LED displays to iPhones and iPads after upgrading the Apple Watch Ultra in 2025.
