At the 2024 Australia Cricket Awards on Wednesday night, Mitchell Marsh took home the Allan Border Medal, concluding an incredible comeback. Mitchell Marsh was the best male cricket player from Australia in the previous season.

Reflecting on an incredible year, the all-rounder struggled to control his emotions as Australia won both the Test and ODI world championships and he was called up to the national side.

Captain Pat Cummins and coach Andrew McDonald gave the 32-year-old another chance because they respected him.

During a speech in Melbourne, Marsh had to gather himself to thank the two for their support for him.

“I’d like to pay particular thanks to Ronny and Patty,” she said.

I appreciate your confidence in me.

“I’m a bit fat at times, and I love beer, but you see the best in me always, and you’ve changed my life, so thank you very much,” she said.

Marsh expressed how much he likes to play with his coworkers.

Right now, I enjoy playing for our squad. These past twelve to eighteen months have been enjoyable. I’m honored to have played a part in this team’s amazing achievements throughout this time.

“It goes without saying that I enjoy having a good time, and it only gets better as you continue to win, so it’s been fantastic.”

Marsh won a medal selected by the players, umpires, and media, defeating captain Pat Cummins of the Test and ODI teams by 79 votes.

The West Australian’s triumph in the Twenty20 format was vital to Australia’s World Cup victory in India. He was overjoyed to rejoin the Test team during the Ashes.

In Tests, ODIs, and T20s, he shared the second-highest total (1638 at 58.5) among Australian players throughout the voting period.
