Babar Azam, Pakistan’s middle-order batsman, has requested that the PCB name him captain of all formats so that he may investigate T20I captaincy on Friday, according to an ESPN Cricinfo report.
Prior to the 2024 T20 World Cup, the PCB asked Babar to take Shaheen Shah Afridi‘s place as T20I captain after the team’s one-series match against New Zealand in January. However, the 29-year-old has not replied.
Following the 2023 ICC World Cup, Shan Masood succeeded Babar as captain of the Test squad, assuming full captaincy responsibilities. Shaheen assumed leadership of the streamlined format. The ODI team’s skipper was still unidentified.
Babar Azam won’t be able to accept PCB’s World Cup offer until he is captain in every way, according to ESPN Cricinfo.
In an earlier press conference, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said he didn’t know the World Cup captain. Naqvi’s press conference raised concerns that Afridi would not captain the Twenty20 team.

Naqvi said, “Even I don’t know the captain.” During Monday’s fitness camp, it will be decided if Shaheen continues as captain or is replaced.
We’ll study what? I won’t say. We need a clear response from Shaheen or others. “We’ll stick with that captain instead of changing him after a loss,” he told.
Remember that Shan Masood will have to give up his red ball captaincy after one series against Australia in December 2023 if PCB accepts Babar’s offer to captain all three formats.
Despite playing with more aggression and nearly winning the third Test, Pakistan lost the series 3-0.
Babar Azam has led Pakistan in five international competitions: the World Cup in 2023, the Asia Cup in 2022 and 2023, and the TT20 World Cup in 2021 and 2022, despite the fact that the Green Shirts haven’t won any ICC or Asia Cup titles.
