The New Zealand tour to Bangladesh
Bangladesh vs. New Zealand: The World Test Championship (WTC) campaign of the Black Caps begins today with a two-test series in Bangladesh, starting in Sylhet.
After hosting a poor South African team whose stars will play in their home Twenty20 tournament, Tim Southee and his team will want to accumulate as many World T20 points as they can from these two Test matches against ninth-ranked Bangladesh.
If they were to win four Test matches in the opening part of the season, they would be well on their way to a second WTC final. They would probably need to win nine out of their fourteen games to accomplish this.

A Test match between Bangladesh and New Zealand has not taken place since the two series ties in 2013. The Black Caps’ previous triumph in a Test match against Bangladesh came in 2008, when captain Daniel Vettori batted for over six hours to enable the team to chase 317 to win.
An innings has decided three of the last five Test matches between Bangladesh and the Black Caps. In their most recent Test match, which took place in Christchurch, New Zealand, in January 2022, New Zealand prevailed by an innings and 117 runs. Not only was it Ross Taylor’s final Test match with the Black Caps, but the legendary player also claimed wickets against Ebadot Hossain in that match.
Pay attention to the benchmarks.
Tim Southee and Kane Williamson each have 94 tests to start the test season. In an attempt to reach 100, they will play all six against Australia in Christchurch beginning on March 8.
If Williamson scored one more century in test cricket, he would tie Virat Kohli and Sir Donald Bradman for 16th place all-time. He currently has 28 centuries. He will share 13th place all-time with Joe Root, Matthew Hayden, and Shivnarine Chanderpaul if he scores two more. Williamson has now accumulated a total of 8124 test runs, placing him 32nd in history, and he is currently aiming for a fourth straight century. Kevin Pietersen and David Gower have scored 8181 and 8231 runs, respectively, to rank second and third.
Tom Latham is trailing John Wright, who ranks sixth all-time in New Zealand, by 184 runs. To become the 16th player from New Zealand to reach 3000 runs, Henry Nicholls needs to score 52 runs.
To become just the fourth player in the history of test cricket to reach 2000 runs without racking up many points, Tim Southee needs to score 24 more runs. With 370 test wickets, Southee is three wickets behind Waqar Younis (ranked 21st overall) and six wickets behind Malcolm Marshall (20th overall).
