Biden gains from Tom Suozzi's George Santos special election win.

When Democrat Tom Suozzi defeated discredited Republican George Santos in the New York congressional election on Tuesday night, Joe Biden gained momentum before the presidential election.

Republicans dominated Long Island’s suburbs, but Democrats won a crucial race.

The Associated Press reported that Suozzi won 59% over Mazi Pilip’s 41% after 52% of votes were counted. Later that evening, Suozzi defeated Pilip 53.9% to 46.1% with 93% of the vote.

Suozzi said in his victory address that Queens and Long Islanders are tired of politics. Their partners should fix the issues.

Pilip, inexperienced, heatedly linked Suozzi to US-Mexico border immigration.

Pilip conceded and called Suozzi Tuesday night to congratulate her. Pilip told her election watch party supporters, “Yes, we lost, but it doesn’t mean we are going to end here.”

Before Biden-Trump, Long Island anticipated voter opinion. George Santos won the district for Republicans in 2022, after Biden in 2020.

After the election, House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries claimed “extreme Maga Republicans had spent millions attacking Tom personally and distorting his distinguished public service record.”.

NY Governor Kathy Hochul said the victory “kickstarts Democrats’ path to regaining control over the House, and that path flows through New York.” She said voters rejected Republicans’ “extreme political agenda”—including border security failure.

Republican strategists worried about Suozzi’s large victory margin after polling anticipated a modest margin.

Consultant William F. B. O’Reilly said in City & State, “It’s clear that attempts to tie him to the migrant crisis were woefully unsuccessful.” “ Republicans risked everything, but Americans disagreed.

“The big walkaway question is how potent a national issue migration will be in 2024.” How could Podunk survive without migrant-flooded New York?

Trump hated the GOP’s Pilip district pick. Hopes “a real candidate” wins the seat in November.

Republicans don’t learn—maybe she was a Dem. Trump called Mazi “a very foolish woman” who ran “in a race where she didn’t endorse me and tried to’straddle the fence’, when she would have easily won if she understood anything about modern-day politics in America.

November predictions may be difficult owing to a several-inch snowstorm on election day. Both campaigns offered free voting while plows cleaned slush.

Last week, a few Republicans opposed impeaching Alejandro Mayorkas, Biden’s top border official. GOP control is 219–213, complicating the government. Republican Steve Scalise endorsed the bill Tuesday after cancer treatment.

A special election was held after George Santos was ousted from Congress in December for 20 fraud charges. Santos angered Republicans by lying about his past before making claims.

After leaving the House to run for governor, Suozzi must reapply in November.

Demographics in New York’s third congressional district made this campaign closely monitored. The suburban district is one of 18 2020 Biden victories that went Republican in 2022.

This year, Suozzi and Pilip will discuss immigration, abortion, and Israeli aid.

Pilip, a local lawmaker who avoided the press during the campaign, accused Suozzi and Biden of “creating the migrant crisis.”.

Suozzi promised to “battle” progressive Congressmen for attention. Pilip opposed a national abortion ban but was “pro-life.”.

Ethiopian Orthodox Jews Pilip and Suozzi, who relocated to Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces before coming to the US, strongly support Israel aid, a vital issue in a district with one of the nation’s largest Jewish populations, according to the Jewish Democratic
