In Maestro, Bradley Cooper discusses his “dramatic” first encounter with co-star Carey Mulligan.
In Leonard Bernstein’s Oscar-nominated biopic, they played opposing roles and first crossed paths backstage at Mulligan’s play.
On the 26th, “Carey Mulligan was in a one-woman show, and I went backstage to meet her and realized something was not right, and I insisted on taking her to the emergency room.”.
“A piece of set struck me in the head during the show,” said Mulligan. Mulligan, 38.
“I continued, but after it was all over, I started crying and felt like I was lost forever,” she said next. “When Bradley arrived, I was crying on the floor, and he took me to the hospital after realizing I wasn’t okay.”
It made me laugh. “You can imagine how delighted the nurse was.”
Cooper plays Leonard Bernstein’s troubled marriage to Felicia Montealegre in Maestro. Cooper is 49.
The film’s teaser showed Cooper using a prosthetic nose “to amplify his resemblance” to the late Jewish conductor, stirring controversy before its September premiere.
Cooper’s work “included the three of us along every step of his amazing journey as he made his film about our father.”
Large Bernstein nose. Bradley may look good. Added “We’re positive that our father would have approved of it as well.”
“Any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of his efforts break our hearts.”
The film was nominated for seven Oscars in 2024, including Best Actor and Best Actress for Cooper and Mulligan.
Geoffrey Macnab’s four-star Independent review considers Cooper lovely in a daring film. “And his co-star, Carey Mulligan, is magnificent.”
