Draymond Green praised Klay Thompson for adapting to his new Warriors role

Golden State beat the Brooklyn Nets 109–98 on Monday. To retain their lead at the end, they started several inexperienced players in favor of Klay Thompson, a seasoned shooter.

Before the media asked Thompson about his absence, Draymond Green delivered a statement from his locker.

“What’s the deal, you didn’t finish the game?” I don’t care about being benched in Finals Game 5. The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported Green’s statement.

Klay Thompson told reporters that adjusting to his new role had been challenging, hence his low game completion rate. He was happy with the younger Warriors because they had the courage to speak for themselves and accepted more playing time.

Honestly, are you kidding me? Thompson asked whether sitting on the bench late in the fourth quarter was a teaching moment.

Leaving a famous athlete in the stands is sad. To be honest, nobody finds it simple. The task is difficult.

Despite his shooting slump, Klay Thompson has recognized that he may not always be Golden State’s last player. Thompson has a career three-point percentage of 41.3%, but his 2023–2024 shooting percentage is 37.4%, his lowest ever.

He made no three-pointers and took only four field shots after the loss. Thompson missed his first three-point shot of the season and was replaced after one minute against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Gui Santos played a game-high eighteen minutes for the Warriors, while Thompson rested in the closing minutes. Thompson had nothing but admiration for the 21-year-old, despite it being his ninth NBA game. Thompson came up from the G-League for this game.

He deserves congratulations because “he gave it his all when playing.” Gui deserves praise. Incredible. How can a G-League player have such an influence overnight? “Outstanding,” Thompson said.
