The Elizabeth line will continue to have disruptions on Friday while workers work to fix the malfunctioning electrical lines that have left hundreds of passengers stranded on trains for up to four hours.
On Thursday night, damage to Network Rail power cables close to Paddington Station caused a travel disruption. Some passengers were left trapped on empty trains for hours, while others were left without heat or light. Affected trains included the Heathrow Express and the Great Western Railway.
Up until at least midday this morning, travelers were advised to anticipate more disruptions.
James Blunt and Rachel Riley are two of the celebrities involved in the incident.
Blunt tweeted on X, “I’ve been stuck outside Paddington for about four hours.” Riley exclaimed, “Hooray! We’re cutting the Elizabeth line! Almost four hours following our login.” In addition, Riley penned “Out of peanuts and champagne.”
TfL reports that “another rail operator’s train” struck the overhead electrical lines, which are under Network Rail’s supervision, delaying four Elizabeth Line trains.
According to a London update on Friday morning, there would be “severe delays” as the lines are being restored between Abbey Wood and Whitechapel and Paddington and Heathrow.
Network Rail apologized and said it would investigate the disruption that happened yesterday night.
“The knock-on effects from last night mean operators will not be able to run a full service from Paddington today, and passengers should check before they travel,” said a spokesperson.
“Repairs are ongoing, and we hope to have the railway fully open by the weekend.”
After being detained for hours on a train between Acton and Paddington, passengers were eventually allowed to disembark and were obliged to walk down the rails to safety.

Walking along the train line in the center of this enormous throng of people was quite unsettling. It reminded me of an altercation.”
After the passengers were evacuated, a few commuters posted pictures of the long taxi lines. One passenger commented, “Somehow they’re getting nearly 1000 people into taxis.” I’m wishing us luck and prosperity.”
Some, fed up with being stranded on the train, “revolted and started walking off,” according to a witness who called the situation “total chaos.” They asserted that the situation had “no management” at all.
“We are well and truly stuck; it sounds like some pretty serious damage on the overheads, so no power on the line,” remarked a fellow passenger on X. We need to be “rescued,” whatever that implies, said the motorist who just spoke.
