England vs. West Indies: England’s problems with the white ball persisted as they lost their first Twenty20 International at Kensington Oval on Tuesday against the West Indies by four wickets.
Sent in, the winner got off to a quick start, scoring 77 at the end of the PowerPlay and 112 after 10 overs. But in their first Twenty20 International in two years, Andre Russell staged a breathtaking recovery, claiming 3-19, as England crumbled and was all out for 171 in the twentieth over.
The West Indies also faced challenging conditions in the run chase, including several setbacks and an extended rain delay, which caused them to fall from 101-4 in the 12th over to 123-6 in the 15th.
With 11 balls remaining, the West Indies were able to complete their goal thanks to the potent hitting of captain Rovman Powell, which shifted the balance of the contest in favour of the home team.
Russell was still undefeated after 29 balls, and Powell was still undefeated after 31 balls from 15 balls. Both batsmen led Kensington Oval as they smashed sixes out of the stadium in the most successful T20 run chase ever. Russell, 35, was named Player of the Match.
He declared, “Life is hilarious.” “I’ve been dreaming of being Man of the Match since I was picked for the West Indies team.”
It appeared that England had made a winning start earlier thanks to the efforts of Phil Salt and captain Jos Buttler, who was back at the top of the order after batting in the middle order during the one-day international series defeat.
After Salt scored 13 runs in the first over, three of which were boundaries, England amassed 50 runs in 4.5 overs. After Alzarri Joseph’s sixth over produced 26 runs with eleven extras, the score accelerated.

In the seventh over, Russell ended a 77-run stand when Shimron Hetmeyer caught Salt at deep mid-wicket with precision. The fielder crossed the boundary and returned to play to secure the catch.

In the seventh over, Russell ended a 77-run stand when Shimron Hetmeyer caught Salt at deep mid-wicket with precision. The fielder crossed the boundary and returned to play to secure the catch.
Russell’s breakthrough came when he realised that going with the slower ball was the best option for delivery.
Russell stated, “I bowled a slower ball in my last delivery of my first over and realised it gripped.” After that, I made things more difficult for the seamen by telling them to use bowl cutters. When they produce quickly, they receive the majority of their runs.
Joseph benefited from the discovery as well; he controlled himself to end with 3-54 after giving up 17 runs in his second over, including seven wides.
England collapsed badly, going from 117-2 to 129-5 in 14 balls. After Sam Curran smashed 13 out of 14 balls, Russell removed Liam Livingston (27), who briefly recovered. At 165-6, England lost their final four wickets for six runs.

After the opening over, Brandon King, a batsman for the West Indies, maintained his outstanding start, smashing two sixes and a four for 16 runs. It was down when King was out for 22 from 12 deliveries, but it still managed to reach 50 from 4.5 overs.
Before being pulled at the beginning of the eighth over, Kyle Myers scored 31 off of 21 balls, raising the total to 78. When the West Indies reached their century in 10.1 overs, they had a good chance of surpassing England’s total.
Nevertheless, Adil Rashid made history in his 100th match by being the first English bowler to reach 100 wickets in T20Is when he dismissed Hetmeyer following Rehan Ahmed (3/39)’s first-ball wicket of Nicholas Pooran (13) in the preceding over.
When the rain started in the thirteenth over, the West Indies were 108–4, and the players had to leave the pitch for more than half an hour. The West Indies hitters found the ball to be softer and the pitch to be unpredictable, but the players returned without losing any overs.
