Joe Root, a middle-order batsman, created history on the opening day of the fourth Test match between England and India at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
In a Test match against India, Root hit 31 red-ball hundreds to become the first batsman to reach ten hundreds. This followed a stretch of ineffectiveness at the restaurant.
Joe Root’s incredible 106 not out led England’s charge, but fast bowler Akash Deep, who made his Test debut on Friday, took three wickets in the fourth Test to cause havoc.
After choosing to bat first in Ranchi, England was behind 2-1 in the five-match series and needed to win. At 302–7, stumps were reached.
After a challenging start in which he found his form, Root, who had previously struggled (scoring only 77 runs in his previous six innings), lost 112-5. Along with Ben Foakes, a 47-run wicketkeeper-batsman, they shared an incredible 113 runs.
Joe Root did not give up after Mohammed Siraj removed Foakes; he and Ollie Robinson (31 not out) combined for 57 runs without losing before play was done.
It was noteworthy in particular since Root’s century came when he was being replaced during a Test match while attempting to hit a reverse scoop shot. To the applause of the England players and fans, he removed his helmet as soon as he crossed the finish line.
Instead of adopting England’s typical aggressive style, referred to as “Bazball,” Joe Root and Foakes opted to bat cautiously in order to prevent India from taking any wickets during the afternoon session.
Deep claimed three wickets, Siraj claimed two, and Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin each claimed one.
