FIA Arrests 16 Multan Beggars Travelling to Saudi Arabia

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) recently made an arrest at Multan airport, where they found what they believe to be sixteen beggars posing as Umrah pilgrims.

11 women, four men, and one child were counted among the 16 passengers that disembarked from the flight that was headed to Saudi Arabia, as stated in a report that appeared in Dawn.

They told FIA officers they were going to Saudi Arabia to beg during immigration. The detained tourists also told investigators they had to donate half of their beginning revenues to their travel agency. After their visas expired, passengers had to return to Pakistan. The passengers were detained by the FIA Multan Circle for legal action.

It is pertinent to note that during a recent meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis, officials reported that an increasing number of Pakistani petitioners were leaving the country.

During the meeting, Zulfikar Haider, secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, informed the committee that 90 percent of beggars apprehended in other countries were of Pakistani descent. He added that numerous petitioners took advantage of pilgrim visas to travel to Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Iraq.
