The Russian president’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, claims that Putin was made aware of Navalny’s passing.
The Russian Investigative Committee carried out an official investigation into the death.
Navalny’s adviser, Leonid Volkov, noted the difficulty of confirming the facts and brought up the lawyer’s imprisonment.
The deputy to Navalny, Ivan Zhdanov, mentioned that the family of the opposition leader had not heard from him in a day.
Dmitry Muratov, a Russian newspaper columnist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, referred to Navalny’s demise as “murder,” noting the conditions of his imprisonment.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak commended Navalny for his bravery in protecting Russian democracy, despite being alarmed by the news.
French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne emphasized Navalny’s sacrifice for standing up to an unfair dictatorship in his expression of condolences.
