Indian Chandrayaan-3 lands near the moon’s south pole, a remarkable feat

Along with the United States, the former Soviet Union, and China, India is now one of just four nations to have successfully completed a soft landing on the moon.

As the robotic lander carrying a rover successfully touched down, there were celebrations all throughout India.

The successful landing was referred to by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “a joyful occasion.”

We have succeeded where no other country has, he asserted. Mr. Modi attended the Brics summit in person while he was in South Africa.

This is a developing story which will be updated.
