What is the theme of the event?

The event will showcase the Indian Navy’s military accuracy and nautical prowess.

Highlights of the day included an SCC cadet hornpipe dance, a Navy Band performance, and a continuity exercise. The celebration will culminate with a stunning laser show at Sindhudurg Fort and ship lights at the anchorage.

The importance of Sindhudurg Fort

Built in 1660 by the Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sindhudurg Fort provides the historical backdrop for the practical demonstration.

This year’s celebration is unique because of its location. This massive celebration is being held at Sindhudurg Fort, which is almost 550 kilometres from Mumbai and 135 kilometres from the Goa naval facility, against the wishes of the naval station. The Indian Navy has put in a lot of work and collaborated closely with the state and local governments to ensure the success of this spectacular festival. The occasion will pay tribute to past triumphs and highlight the Indian Navy’s current capabilities.

The history of Navy Day

The Indian Navy celebrates Navy Day on December 4 in remembrance of “Operation Trident,” which included an attack on Karachi Harbour. The Indian Navy and its citizens are enthusiastic in their celebration of this event.

The conflict started as a result of Pakistan’s preemptive bombing of an Indian airbase in the western region, known as Operation Chengiz Khan.

With Operation Trident, the Indian Navy openly and gallantly faced Pakistan’s assault. Following Trident, the Indian Navy also conducted Operations Python and Cactus.
The gallant troops who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War are also honoured on this day.

The significance of Navy Week

On December 4, the Indian Navy joined the conflict and launched several powerful attacks on Karachi. To honour these occasions and the significant contribution the Indian Navy made to them, an annual commemoration is organised. This annual event commemorates the beginning of Operation Trident, which put an end to hostilities between Pakistan and India, and honours the Indian Navy.

The public and internet users would be able to witness the Indian Navy’s state-of-the-art vessels and aircraft through a live feed.

PM to participate in Navy Day events.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) released a statement stating that on December 4, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Indian Navy Day celebration in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, and dedicate a 43-foot statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot Fort.

In addition, aircraft, battleships, submarines, and special forces from Sindhudurg’s Tarkarli beach will perform operational demonstrations for PM Modi.

The statement claims that this is the first time a significant event of this kind is not taking place at a significant naval installation.
