Following a bilateral conference between Saudi Arabian Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud and President of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi), an extra quota of 20,000 pilgrims was agreed upon for the Hajj voyage in 2024.
President Widodo and the PM discussed the lengthy line for the Hajj in Indonesia on Friday outside the inaugural ASEAN-GCC and Association of South-east Asian Nations (ASEAN) conference in Riyadh.
Some would-be pilgrims may have to wait up to 47 years due to the lengthy line.
Indonesia therefore needs an extra Hajj quota. He said, “Thank God, Alhamdulillah,” during a news conference about his journey to Riyadh that was uploaded on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube page in response to the overwhelmingly positive response.

Less than 12 hours after the meeting, the President claims that Indonesia was granted an additional quota of at least 20,000 for the Hajj the next year.

The Hajj officer quota was set at 2,200, and there used to be a ceiling of 221 thousand pilgrims from Indonesia for the Hajj trip in 2024.

The Indonesian government has started making preparations to guarantee that the necessary Hajj services will be offered in 2024. Some of these preparations include the appointment of authorised Hajj officials.
Hilman Latief, the director general of the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the Hajj and Umrah, had previously emphasised the importance of meticulous planning for the training of Hajj officers, including figuring out the prerequisites and placement strategies to enhance Hajj services.
