After winning his third match of 2024 on Sunday at the Miami Open, Jannik Sinner is enjoying his great start.
The Italian went 22-1 and reached a career-high second in the world rankings after defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the championship match and Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals.
Sinner said, “This is a special moment,” after defeating Dimitrov 6-3, 6-1 in the Masters 1000 final.
This may happen again, but when is unknown. You can only play clay-court tennis one day before the season starts.
See how I do later. The hard-court season is going well.
Jannik Sinner won his first grand slam at the Australian Open in January with flawless serve and stroke selection.
After winning in South Florida, the Spaniard will watch his rival in the standings on Monday. Carlos Alcaraz defeated him in the Indian Wells quarterfinals, his only loss of the year.
During the course of the conversation, Sinner expressed that “being number two is an amazing feeling.”
I never believed this would happen. Everyone’s family is like mine. Both of my parents work. My view is that life is not sports.
Darren Cahill, Sinner’s 22-year-old coach, told the reporters that the athlete was having fun but staying grounded.
“He is appreciative of every moment that is happening to him, but he is also grounded in the fact that this is just a tennis match and not a sport,” she said.
Despite his job, he enjoys life. A typical 22-year-old boy. Carlos and I know a lot. There’s lots of overlap.
“With players like those two and a plethora of up-and-coming talent who will continue the legacy of a generation we’ve had the privilege of witnessing over the previous 20 years, I believe tennis is in excellent hands.”
“Having these kinds of sportspeople come through is important.”
