Online, Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga‘s musical follow-up to Joker 2, Joker: Folie à Deux, has released its first trailer.

Phoenix portrays Arthur Fleck, the namesake of the sequel, as an idealistic stand-up comedian gone bad. Lady GaLady Gaga plays Harley Quinn, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, Fleck’s psychiaWhile imprisoned in Arkham Asylum, Quinzel gradually develops feelings for Fleck.

The term describes a particular kind of mental illness known as “shared delusions,” which affects two people simultaneously.

Unlike Joker, Folie à Deux is going to be a musical. According to Variety, there will be fifteen pieces in total, and most of them are song covers from previous appearances. “That’s Entertainment” is a song that Judy Garland recorded for the 1953 musical The Band Wagon. In the trailer, the 1965 song What the World Needs Now Is Love is featured.

Joker 2: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips initially stated that the first picture was “always pitched as one movie.” Even if he became engaged, Phoenix would remain open to producing more movies. In addition, Folie à Deux stars Steve Coogan, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Zazie Beetz.

For his role as Fleck, Phoenix won his first Academy Award. In a Rolling Stone statement, he said, “I can’t stop thinking about it. If there’s something else we can do with The Joker, that might be interesting.” It was obvious he was thrilled about the work. Phoenix claims that there are “endless possibilities of where we can go with the character.”

The first R-rated movie to ever earn over $1 billion at the box office is Joker, which debuted in 2019. It took home two of the eleven Oscars for which it was nominated, in addition to the Golden Lion from the Venice International Film Festival.

Theaters will screen Joker: Folie à Deux on October 4.
