The 31-year-old received the four-way preselection vote at Hawthorn on Saturday from 233 out of 329 party members.
Ms. Hamer is a Liberal Party supporter. Her grandparents are Victorian Premier Rupert “Dick” Hamer and former Liberal Senator David Hamer.
Victoria Rochelle Pattison, the transgender chair, garnered 59 Kooyong preselection votes, compared to 20 for tax lawyer Michael Flynn and 15 for vascular surgeon Susan Morris.
Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies and former Liberal leader Andrew Peacock granted Kooyong protection.
Despite her loss, Monique Ryan won the 2022 Teal Wave by 2.9%.
After winning the challenge, Ms. Hamer informed reporters that she raised her hand to “ensure future generations can access the same opportunities that past generations have had.”.
“I will fight to put home ownership back on the agenda for young Australians by tackling housing affordability and cost of living pressures,” she declares.
“I am running to serve my community—not with empty slogans, but by actually doing something for the residents of Kooyong.”
Ms. Hamer was happy to hear about issues in the area.
“We are on the same side, and we can work together for a better future,” she said.
Oxford accepted Ms. Hamer, a native of Hawthorn, to pursue studies in philosophy, politics, and economics. In London and San Francisco, she worked in financial trading and venture capital.
