Key Takeaways from the WPL 2024 Auction: The second Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction was held in Mumbai on Saturday, with 165 players up for grabs. There were 61 international players among them. Nine of the 30 places that were up for grabs in the WPL 2023 auction were reserved for foreign players.
The Gujarat Giants strengthened their team for the 2018 Women’s Premier League by acquiring Australian Phoebe Litchfield for INR 1 crore. Litchfield was the first player selected in the first round of the auction. Following a spectacular deal, Delhi Capitals (DC) acquired Annabel Sutherland from Australia for INR 2 crore. There were 109 uncapped players and 56 capped players in the mini-auction.

During the WPL 2024 mini-auction, West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin—who had the highest reserve price of ₹50 lakh—was not sold. Nor did Kim Garth of Ireland, the winner of the Mumbai WPL auction. The Gujarat Giants decided to go big at the auction for Kashvee Gautam, the rising star in India. In the end, Gautam proved to be the most costly uncapped purchase in WPL auction history. Before the WPL 2024 season, GG paid INR 2 crore to sign the uncapped Indian cricket prodigy.
