Due to Pakistan International Airlines‘ (PIA) fuel supply issue, which is now in its second week, and the government’s plans to sell the airline, 50 domestic and international flights were canceled on Tuesday.
Last week, PIA flights were canceled and delayed as a result of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) ceasing fuel delivery due to unpaid bills. Due to the national flag carrier’s enormous losses and outstanding debt of hundreds of billions of rupees, the government plans to sell it.
Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, the caretaker prime minister, revealed a restructuring plan to balance the company’s finances after the government denied the national flag carrier’s request for Rs 23 billion ($76 million) in operating support.

The PIA’s Abdullah Khan claimed that “out of the 53 international and 27 domestic flights scheduled for today (Tuesday), the airline had to cancel 50 flights, including 27 international and 23 domestic flights, due to the unavailability of fuel.”

Despite paying PSO an advance of Rs 220 million ($789,804) for gasoline supply on Saturday and Sunday, PIA alleges 70 flights were delayed on Sunday.
Arab News contacted Naila Irum, a PSO spokesperson, who refuted the claim.
Khan stated over the weekend that there were “slim chances of a full restoration of flight operations” because of fuel distribution and PSO’s refusal to grant “a fellow government organization” credit or relaxation.
“Our attention will now turn to maintaining our global operations, for which we can obtain gasoline from other sources, as opposed to Pakistan, where we are required to obtain fuel from PSO,” he stated.
According to a PIA official, the airline’s PSO legal issue has caused passengers inconvenience.
He continued, “We would encourage our valued customers to continue supporting their favorite brand.”
“In the past 75 years, we have faced tougher challenges, and each time, we have overcome them to help this great nation in its hour of need.”
PIA will run out of gasoline just as it is prepared to resume UK flights in two months.
Flights from PIA to Europe and the UK have been suspended since 2020 as a result of pilot license fraud and revocation by the EU Aviation Safety Agency.
