Following his victory at UFC 296 this past weekend, lightweight champion Islam Makhachev directed his criticism towards the unbeaten welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Henry Cejudo, a native of Birmingham and former two-weight champion, has selected the native to “expose” Makhachev if the two of them ever share the Octagon.
At UFC 298 in February, Cejudo—the organization’s undefeated flyweight and bantamweight champion—will square off against Merab Dvalishvili in the Octagon.
In regards to Edwards, the British fighter made a big impression at UFC 296 this past weekend by winning their much-anticipated rematch against fierce opponent Colby Covington via majority decision.

At UFC 294 back in October, Makhachev, a well-known fighter from Russia, prevailed over Alexander Volkanovski to keep his lightweight title. The Australian was stopped in the opening round with a spectacular high kick knockout.
After defeating Edwards at UFC 296 to capture the title, Makhachev pushed for a rematch and demanded a switch of leadership at the welterweight limit right after the main event.
“Leon (Edwards) must come next,” asserted Islam Makhachev. Furthermore, this fight—Edwards vs. Covington—was a bunch of nonsense, dude. There must be a new champion selected.
Islam Aided Makhachev in Overcoming Leon Edwards
Furthermore, with help from the previously mentioned Cejudo—who has evolved into a coach for multiple UFC champions and top contenders—Makachev would easily “expose” Edwards in a rematch.
On his YouTube channel, Henry Cejudo stated, “I feel like a guy like Islam (Makhachev) is going to expose Leon Edwards because he fights everyone the same.” People like Israel Adesanya and essentially one-dimensional individuals were examples of it. Defeating opponents that are proficient with weapons in addition to hitting is the most difficult.
Cejudo claims that everything is on the line for him. He’s talking about going up against Sean Strickland already. These guys are probably staying away from Islam Makhachev.
