On Friday at 3 a.m., age-related health conditions killed former Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi. He was 86.

His son Unmesh informed Hindustan Times, “He was admitted to the ICU and under observation. He had heart problems on Wednesday. His age-related illnesses remained. We would get the corpse in Matunga before the Shivaji Park crematorium finals.

Joshi’s health has fluctuated since his May 2023 brain hemorrhage. It left him semiconscious in Hinduja Hospital’s ICU for two days. His doctors advised him to stay in Shivaji Park for treatment due to his poor prognosis.

On December 2, Joshi’s Dadar office followers celebrated his 86th birthday.

The Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute in Mumbai awarded Joshi, born December 2, 1937, a Bachelor of Civil Engineering.

Joshi joined the RSS, then Shiv Sena. The 1980s Shiv Sena was organized and formed under Joshi.

Manohar Joshi’s biggest political win was the Maharashtra chief ministership in 1995. After Sharad Pawar, he gave the Shiv Sena its first state control. He was Vajpayee’s 2002–2004 Lok Sabha Speaker.

Manohar Joshi was a versatile Shiv Sena member who had administrative, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Devotion to founder Bal Thackeray was vital.

From poverty in Nandvi village, Raigad, and Konkan, Joshi ascended.

Joshi carefully balanced school and Nandvi village cuisine. Joshi claimed his neighbors protested and denied him meals for being late. Being prompt for meals impacted his lifelong punctuality.

Joshi joined the Shiv Sena in 1966 and helped Bal Thackeray spread it in the state. Thackeray may travel for days. After founding Kohinoor Technical Institute, students and staff dubbed him “Sir.” Later, all Shiv Sainiks called him such.

Jobs sparked Shiv Sena’s Marathi manooos conflict. Joshi thought they required skilled workers, so his institute helped.

According to Joshi’s partymate, Diwakar Raote, “Three Sena corporators won the 1986 BMC elections. He chaired a commission before becoming mayor in 1976. He entered state politics in the 1980s.”

After becoming a state member, his development experience and connection to Mumbai helped him promote Mumbai. Joshi became Maharashtra CM in 1995 after Shiv Sena and the BJP won.

Joshi rebuilt Bal Thackeray’s slums with FSI and sellables.

BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde claimed Manohar Joshi and Pramod Mahajan’s pact improved Shiv Sena-BJP relations. Our alliance nominated Sudhir Joshi’s uncle, Manohar CM, hours after taking power. The Balasaheb Thackeray conflict was resolved.
