Despite her controversial background, Pakistan‘s first Miss Universe contender has committed to being “an ambassador for peace and goodwill.”
Erica Robin told The National, “I want to show the beautiful side of Pakistan, away from all the hate and negativity that we see on some media outlets.” “I have repeatedly stated that I will wear a burkini because I respect our culture, and it’s my choice.”
Karachi-born model Robin, 24, will represent Pakistan in the 72nd edition of the world’s most famous and longest-running beauty pageant after winning last month.
The Pakistani prime minister launched an investigation last month into Anwaar ul-Haq Kakar‘s remarks.

Much of the wrath is pointless.
Some Miss Universe contestants wear bikinis on stage, even though it’s not required. Bahraini Manar Nadeem Deyani competes in Miss Universe 2021 swimwear. She arrived in baggy sportswear and was welcomed.
Opponents also resist a non-governmental organization’s Pakistani representation. The rules allow anyone to use Miss Universe for a local event. Miss Universe Pakistan, Bahrain, and Egypt are owned by the Dubai-based Yugen Group.
Robin, a minority Christian Pakistani, says Miss Universe lets women “show the best of what they can do in any field they have chosen.”
“This platform has evolved to advocate for and empower causes to make the world a better place to live,” she adds.
“A lot of people have asked me why I wanted to stay in Pakistan; my answer is very simple—it is my home,” she says. “I’m thankful to live here and have all my hopes and dreams come true.” I feel Pakistan has much to be grateful for, so despite its troubles, it should share its blessings.
American R’Bonney Gabriel will be crowned Miss Universe in El Salvador in November. The several-week event will feature teams from over 80 countries. A winner will be announced on November 18.
