“Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi said the first session of the new National Assembly might be called on any date between February 22 and February 29,” the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reports.
According to Solangi, the first session of the new assembly was set up by Pakistan’s Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs following the ECP’s transmission of the poll results to the National Assembly Secretariat.
The communication minister claimed that while the prime minister was not covertly chosen by MPs, the speaker and deputy speaker were.
Elected prime ministers appoint and swear in members of the federal cabinet. The prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar would take over for the caretaker.
The PTI of former prime minister Imran Khan would attempt to unite MWM in a government. This week, in spite of Khan’s ninety-three independent candidates and the MWM’s lone seat, former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif seemed to be winning the race for prime minister with the backing of six major Pakistani parties.
The PML-N nominated Sharif to be prime minister on Tuesday. In addition to the 75 seats gained by the PML-N, he enjoys the backing of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which garnered 54 seats; the Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), which garnered 17 seats; and several smaller parties.
The PML-N and its allies are expected to conclude coalition talks on Thursday.
