On December 3, 2023, Pakistan’s women’s team won the first Twenty20 International at the University of Otago Oval in Dunedin by seven wickets. Pakistan’s women’s team won their maiden Twenty20 international match against the New Zealand White Ferns.

Pakistan needed 128 runs to win, and Muneeba Ali and Shawaal Zulfiqar started the inning well with 40 runs. Muneeba, who had scored 23 off 24 and four fours, returned to the pavilion first. At that point, captain Nida Dar and right-handed batter Shawaal shared 51 runs for the second wicket. Shawaal, 18, smashed seven boundaries and scored 41 off 42 balls in her sixth Twenty20 international and first in New Zealand.

After Shawaal was dismissed with 91 runs in the 13th over, Nida was dismissed after scoring 23 off 14 balls, including a four and a six.

The team rallied behind Bismah Maroof and Aliya Riaz after two wickets. They won by seven wickets in ten balls. Unbeaten, Aliya hit 25 off 12 balls. She won with a six off the second ball of the 19th over after hitting two fours and a six in her innings. Bismah scored 13 off 18 balls and a four to remain unblemished.

The White Ferns batted first, but the touring team’s bowling limited them to 127 for six. Fatima Sana, who missed the Bangladesh tour due to injury, deployed her right arm rapidly to bowl three wickets in four overs for 18 runs using the cloud cover. Nida, Aliya, and Diana Baig took wickets.

Maddy Green, who hit five fours and scored 43 off of 28 balls without giving up, led the New Zealand squad in runs scored.

On Tuesday, December 5, the second Twenty20 International between Pakistan and the White Ferns will now take place at the same venue. The series’ third and final Twenty20 International is scheduled for Saturday, December 9 at 1300 local time in Queenstown.
