Panthers vs Canucks: On Thursday, Thatcher Demko’s 36 saves helped the Vancouver Canucks win their fourth straight game 4-0 at Rogers Arena over the Florida Panthers.
Demko has three shutouts this season and six in the NHL. Before the game, the Canucks enshrined former goaltender Roberto Luongo into their Ring of Honour.
Lyrical? “Nearly in the air,” Demko added, hearing “Luuu” after huge saves. “A truly amazing night, and he’s such a great guy.” He has always respected me despite our distance, which is impressive for a childhood idol.
Andrei Kuzmenko, Dakota Joshua, and Brock Boeser scored to extend his point streak to nine games as Vancouver (20-9-1) won a five-game homestand 4-1-0. In his run, Boeser has 14 points (9 goals, 5 assists).
“That’s a really good hockey team,” said Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet. “Demmer” worked. He was a good netminder for us.
After surrendering four goals on 17 shots, Sergei Bobrovsky has shut out the Panthers (17-10-2) in three games. Anthony Stolarz replaced Bobrovsky after the second and stopped the sole shot in the third.
The Florida captain said, “You got to find a way, because we haven’t scored a goal in the last two games.” “We need to find a way to fight for those second, third, and even fourth chances, even though we’re putting enough pucks at the net.”
The Panthers defeated Seattle 4-0 on Tuesday. Over 12 years ago, Florida scored back-to-back on October 18 and 20, 2011. The Seattle loss was competitive until the end, so head coach Paul Maurice saw few similarities between the games.
“We did some really stupid things that we just don’t do,” he said. “Tonight, we simply weren’t right.” I doubt it’s Seattle because you have those games. We won three straight before that. Since we were horrible tonight, I’ll take consolation in its rarity.
A breakaway goal by Kuzmenko under Bobrovsky put Vancouver up 1-0 at 4:03 of the first period. Near the left circle, he skated around Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola, who was speechless due to a turnover.
Joshua beat Bobrovsky on a spin play above the Florida crease at 13:52 by lifting his rebound over him tight on the backhand to make it 2-0.
Demko stopped Barkov from retrieving a rebound outside the frame with his left pad with 20 seconds left in the first.

Barkov said, “We know he’s one of the best goalies in the world, so he is tough to beat,” when seeing the puck.
At 10:08 of the second, Joshua scored from the slot after Bobrovsky’s pass was intercepted below the left circle.
He said, “I knew his options there were kind of limited because (Connor) Garland was taking away the left side.” He gave it to me when I guessed right.” “I wonder if things can get any simpler than that.”
Boeser scored his 22nd goal of the year at 15:41 on a 5-on-3 power play in the 4-0 win. After Boeser deflected Miller’s powerful backdoor pass, Miller scored behind Bobrovsky.
Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad missed the third period with a lower-body injury. After warmups, the Uvis Balinskis-clad defenseman replaced forward Jonah Gadjovich, who was sick.
“I’m not even sure if it’s day-to-day,” said Maurice. On Friday, we’ll update him. I thought we were ahead. We shut him down due to too many defensemen.
