The appointment of Shane Watson as head coach and Shaun Tait as bowling coach by the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Quetta Gladiators brought two important new coaches to the group. There is going to be another significant shift for the organisation.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, the team’s eight-year commander, will be fired because Watson and owner Nadeem Omer are expected to meet in the next few days, according to a report from ESPN Cricinfo on Tuesday.
There is now no obvious frontrunner to succeed Sarfaraz, but the report suggests that Saud Shakeel and Rilee Russouw, who returned from the Multan Sultans as part of a trade arrangement, are the front-runners to take over as captain.
In domestic cricket, Saud is regarded for his leadership abilities, which may be one of the factors keeping him in the running.

During an appearance on a local podcast, Nadeem Omer recently declared that he is “double-minded” on whether Sarfaraz should be demoted as skipper.
Omar remarked, “It’s the elephant in the room.” Everywhere I go, I hear this question. That being said, our close relationship with these players sets our brand apart from the competition. I believe Pakistan has a history of allowing players to depart without much fuss, even if I am aware that players only have so much time left in them.
Subsequently, Omar declared that Sarfaraz would be given the team’s much-deserved captaincy and that he and Watson would meet in the coming days.
Sarfaraz’s success has declined in the last several years. This is due to a number of factors, not the least of which is the PCB’s sudden termination of him, particularly considering that he still had a few years remaining on his contract. He won’t be allowed to leave without a fight from us.
“Even though we’re not positive yet, we’ll give him full credit. Sarfaraz informed me that if Quetta desired to change, he would be more than willing to resign. Omar continued, “We’ll decide after our call with Shane Watson in a few days.”
According to Quetta, it is important to remember that Sarfaraz will still lead the squad in the PSL 9 Draft.
Notably, Quetta competed in three finals and won in 2019 while Sarfaraz was in charge.
