During PSL 8, a significant number of franchise sponsors were surrogate companies. The controversy intensified after Mohammad Rizwan, the captain of the Multan Sultans, purposefully concealed the insignia of his sponsors throughout a match, thereby generating considerable attention.
The government recently enforced a comprehensive ban on surrogate advertising. After the notification, the PCB spokeswoman acknowledged receiving guidance but no formal directives, emphasising the need for further consideration.
A subsequent government notification that emphasised zero tolerance has thus furnished further elucidation regarding the circumstances.
The PSL Governing Council will discuss surrogate advertising on Tuesday in Lahore.
A copy of the official government notification has been given, so franchise teams must refrain from such acts.
Several franchises have already removed any alternative corporate logos that may have been present in their social media posts.
