Under the leadership of interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Punjab administration has made major strides in the agriculture sector, signalling the second-most critical turning point in rice production after cotton.

The province intends to export rice worth US$2 billion this year in addition to meeting its own needs, enabling Pakistan to sell US$3 billion worth of rice altogether. With time, this success story just gets better. Punjab increased its rice exports by 100% to $1 billion last year.

The Punjab Chief Minister thanked the Agriculture Secretary and the dedicated team for this noteworthy achievement in rice production after the triumphs in cotton production. He continued by projecting that during the following two years, Pakistan’s rice exports would reach $5 billion.

Punjab is anticipated to generate 125% more cotton bales this year than it did last. CM Naqvi has concentrated his efforts on stabilising and raising the price of cotton as a result.

The provincial minister for industry and agriculture, SM Tanveer, as well as the secretary of agriculture, will discuss this with the federal government. We will make contact with the Pakistani Trading Corporation to initiate the cotton purchase immediately.

The initial output targets for Punjab are a staggering 40 million metric tonnes of wheat. To accomplish this, sow wheat by November 15 using high-quality seeds.

The province also intends to cultivate oilseeds on 19,000 acres of land. During a special meeting, the caretaker CM approved crucial steps to boost crop yield.

Senior administrators, including the additional chief secretary, additional IG Special Branch, and secretaries of agriculture, irrigation, and finance, attended the meeting in addition to SM Tanveer, the province’s minister for industries and agriculture.
