President Dr. Arif Alvi took the oath at the President House in Islamabad in front of Interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, Army Chief Asim Munir, senators, and foreign diplomats.

Due to his October 25, 2024, resignation, Justice Isa’s stint as chief justice will be brief.

On September 5, 2014, he joined the Supreme Court. A 2019 presidential reference stopped the senior puisne judge from examining constitutional matters for three years.

The nation’s highest judge was born in Quetta on October 26, 1959. Friends with his father, Pakistan Movement leader Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

After graduating from Quetta Primary School, Justice Isa pursued O and A levels at Karachi Grammar. He graduated from London’s Inns of Court School of Law and passed the bar.

His Balochistan High Court career began on January 30, 1985. He became a Supreme Court lawyer in March 1998. Emergency proclaimed by Musharraf on November 3, 2007. Isa disregarded PCO judges.

After the Supreme Court rejected the November 3 verdict, Justice Isa joined the provincial high court on August 5, 2009. The Balochistan High Court judges resigned simultaneously.

He was a lawyer for 27 years before becoming a Supreme Court and Balochistan High Court judge. The Supreme Court and other high courts requested his expertise in major cases and international arbitrations.

Justice Isa joined the SC on September 5, 2014, and has served five months in chambers. No one disputes the highest judge’s suo motu jurisdiction.

In March, Justices Isa and Qazi Ameenuddin instructed the Supreme Court to freeze all Article 184(3) cases until Practice and Procedure Act regulations are released.

Justice Isa is 45 and a legal veteran. He wrote about the Constitution, law, Islam, and the environment for Pakistan’s major English-language news sites before becoming a judge.
