In the first round, Andy Murray of the United States will play Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov, who is rated second.
Murray has already won the title twice; his most recent victory came against Dimitrov in the 2013 Brisbane International final.
The 84th-ranked German Tamara Korpatsch will play four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the opening round of the women’s draw on her eagerly awaited return to her native country.
Shai, the daughter of the well-known Japanese woman who struggles with mental illness, was born in July. September of 2022 marked her most recent competitive match participation.
In the second round, Osaka will face three-time champion Karolina Pliskova of Brisbane if she defeats Korpatsch.
Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s second-ranked player, received a bye in the first round.
