Leipzig’s custodian, Andriy Lunin, had to make numerous stops after the hosts’ goal was controversially disallowed for offside, but the effort was in vain against Real Madrid.

At the same venue, Leipzig defeated Real Madrid 3-2 in October 2022. Their coach, Marco Rose, stated on Tuesday that his club was “not afraid” of the 14-time European champions.
Disputed decision
In three minutes, a contentious offside call disallowed the goal as Benjamin Henrichs blocked the custodian. The home team took the lead early on.
Kroos thought it was an error.
“The custodian would not have got to the ball, so it was a goal.”
Gulacsi told reporters that he was “frustrated” and that “1-0 after a couple of minutes could have changed the whole game.”
Leipzig had a couple half-hearted attempts, but her team survived because striker Benjamin Sesko was not focused.
Toni Kroos’s long-range effort was the only real offensive attempt that Gulacsi stopped early on.
Their greatest opportunity came from a late, looping cross from Vinicius just above Rodrygo’s head in the first half.
While attempting to gather the ball along the sideline, Diaz was fouled three minutes into the second half. After the foul, he continued to dribble through Leipzig’s defence and scored by shooting a looping shot past Gulacsi.
“We played a good game, but we weren’t able to dominate,” Diaz said.
“I’m happy to be able to help the side; we continue to show we’re a great team.”
The score infuriated the home team, and Dani Olmo, a product of the Barcelona academy, stunned Lunin with two almost identical goals.
With twenty minutes remaining, Madrid went on the attack, but Vinicius struck the post to stop a goal.
Leipzig chose to play a bitter Madrid because Diaz was injured, and Lunin stopped Sesko’s hard shot. The Ukrainian goalie stopped substitute Amadou Haidara’s attempt to dip.
