Drone attacks on each other’s territory escalated on Sunday between Russia and Ukraine. Despite assertions that the Russian explosion in Odesa only claimed one life, the Ukrainian strike was directed towards a Russian military base.
Early on Sunday morning, the Ukrainian air force claimed to have shot down 20 Russian drones and a cruise missile. In this region of southern Odesa, nine drones were shot down. One person died in a fire that broke out in a private residence due to falling debris.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated on social media that its air defence systems shot down 35 Ukrainian drones over Volgograd, Rostov, and Lipetsk. The damage and the target were unknown to us.

Ukrainska Pravda reported late Sunday that the SBU and Armed Forces coordinated the Kyiv operation at the Russian Morozovsk airbase outside Rostov, citing unidentified sources.
Reuters could not verify the reports.
Vasily Golubev, the governor of Rostov, southwest Russia, which borders Ukraine, told Telegram that Kamensk and Morozovsk air defence forces had stopped “a massive attack” by drones, killing most of the aircraft.
According to Russian military archives, one air base’s aircraft was only slightly damaged.
The 559th Bomber Aviation Regiment at Morozovsk flies Russia’s most advanced medium-range Su-34 bombers, according to an official media report.
Despite their protests, Moscow and Kiev started striking each other’s military installations on a regular basis in February 2022.
Sunday’s attacks followed Russia’s Friday claim that it shot down 26 Ukrainian drones over Crimea, which it annexed in 2014. On Saturday, Ukraine’s air defences knocked down 30 Russian-launched drones in 11 districts.
