Colorado’s Boulder On Sunday against the New York Jets, the Denver Broncos had one timeout to win or tie 24-21. The ball was on their 41-yard line.
They lost the game and possibly their playoff chances.
After the ball was snapped, Jets linebacker Quincy Williams raced through the Broncos’ right side of the offensive line while right tackle Mike McGlinchey defended Will McDonald IV. Wilson shoved himself forward and ran to the left sideline to escape the assault.
Wilson couldn’t outrun Williams, and the Broncos watched as the Jets brought the ball home and ended the game.
Sean Payton yelled, gestured, and asked questions as Wilson approached the Broncos sideline and removed his helmet on CBS. When asked about Payton’s Monday morning talk with Wilson, a reporter said it was “animated”.

“I don’t think I was all that animated,” said Payton. “I think maybe it wasn’t as big of an exchange or big deal as some may have thought.”
After months of speculation about Wilson and Payton’s relationship and future, this video of Payton unhappy with his quarterback went viral. ESPN released “Sean Payton lays into Russell Wilson after sack-fumble” on the NFL channel.
Payton downplayed the video before rushing to clarify.
Head coach: “I just wanted to make sure he knew the linebacker was a free-rusher.”
After an ugly second half, especially in the passing game, the Broncos’ cherry on top
“We’re hot off the weak side linebacker, and the specific play you’re talking about at the end of the game was a five-man protection,” Payton said.

That was the Broncos’ fourth loss of the season, along with Wilson’s fourth sack and third turnover (all fumbles).
For most of the game, Wilson’s protection was an issue. The head coach explained this on Monday.
Payton said, “We were in some longer yardage situations.” ” We could have tackled the ball better. The pocket is continuously split. Zone coverage hampered his rapid passes and progressions, even if he was capable. I think we should evaluate and address the pocket. We occasionally form a coverage-focused squad. We’ll have to battle it with our running game and penetration skills, like we showed in Chicago.
The Broncos’ dreadful first half ended with Wilson’s error, as their offense stagnated and their halftime lead evaporated. Denver managed only 125 yards in the second half, including 27 yards on the game’s last drive when the Jets used a defensive
Yes, we started the first half better offensively than the second. Payton said, “That has to get better.” about Denver’s second-half offense. It was a two-part day yesterday. We did well as a team in the first half. Even though we didn’t score many goals, we struggled offensively and defensively in the second half and lost a big lead. The game suddenly grew close. Naturally, joining the four quarters was one of my morning observations.
How well the Broncos play four quarters on both sides of the ball will determine their performance against the Chiefs on Thursday Night Football in Kansas City.
