Bangladesh’s men’s cricket team captain, Shakib Al Hasan, secured a seat in parliament on Sunday by easily winning the nation’s general elections.
As to the Dhaka Tribune, Shakib, who was contesting for the seat from the western town of Magura, earned 185,388 votes.
Bangladesh’s prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, easily won the Gopalganj-3 seat, securing her eighth term in office. With 223 seats won on Sunday, Hasina’s Awami League party now has the requisite number of Members of Parliament to establish a government.
The Dhaka Tribune claims that Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, told Shakib Al Hasan to “hit a six” in the nation’s 12th general election on January 7.
