Smartphones Installment Policy Awaits Two More Ministries Approval

Just as the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Finance are getting ready to review the Smartphones installment policy, the Ministry of IT and Telecom is about to move forward with it.

The ministry is getting ready to send the policy to the federal government for additional review and approval after extensive stakeholder talks at a mobile financing working group meeting.

According to sources, the Ministry of IT and Telecom intends to release a directive indicating the start of a cell phone financing program once it receives approval from the federal government.

This effort expands upon prior endeavors; in December of last year, the Ministry of IT and Telecom submitted to the Federal Government the Smartphones Financing Policy. But in January, the Ministry of Law sent the policy back for further evaluation.

Smartphones installment Programm:

The goal of the proposed mobile phone installment program is to make technology more accessible to people by providing interest-free payment options. This program would target people with limited financial resources. The regulation also details steps to restrict the mobile phones of people who do not pay their installments, which helps with worries about defaulters.

Instead of depending just on cell providers for enforcement, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) would play a crucial role in implementing this policy. An essential component of the blocking procedure will be the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) developed by the PTA.
