Pittsburgh Steelers may play Cleveland Browns backup.
— PITTSBURGH The Pittsburgh Steelers could avoid facing Deshaun Watson a second time this season if the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns is placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
Watson missed Weeks 5 and 6 with a shoulder injury for the Browns. He returned in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts, but was sacked in the first quarter and had to leave the game. Due to the impact, he was evaluated for a concussion but was cleared. According to head coach Kevin Stefanski, he remained sidelined due to a precautionary approach to the situation.

Now, there are concerns as to whether Watson will play in the near future due to his injured shoulder. When asked if Watson could be placed on injured reserve, Stefanski stated that the team is approaching things day by day.

If the Browns quarterback ends up on IR, he will miss at least four weeks of action. His first week of eligibility to return is Week 12, the week following the Browns’ matchup with the Steelers.
Watson completed 22 of 40 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in their first meeting, but he also threw an interception. T.J. Watt’s game-winning interception and touchdown helped Pittsburgh defeat Cleveland 26-22.
If Watson cannot play against the Steelers, it appears that P.J. Walker will continue as the team’s starting quarterback. Walker has been spending his weekdays on the practice squad, with game-day promotions occurring. If Watson is to miss significant time, this would need to alter.
