Rafael Nadal started his desperately needed training for the Australian Open a few days ago when he upset the reigning US Open champion, Dominic Thiem, in straight sets at the Brisbane International.
The 38-year-old defeated Australian Jason Kubler 6-1, 6-2, on Thursday to keep his spotless record intact.
As it was earlier on Twitter, this is X’s response
It was earlier in what might have been his final season as a professional that Nadal played down his chances of winning the championship.
According to Rafael Nadal, “winning tournaments is not even a possibility to consider these days,” he told the Australian Associated Press on Friday. “You may truly enjoy the favour being returned. I plan to leave the court for no more than a year.
Despite his current world ranking of 672nd, the Spaniard feels he is in better shape than he was a year ago, but he hasn’t committed to any long-term goals as of yet.
Rafael Nadal remarked, “I’m not sure how this is going to continue.” Games that attempt to forecast events in the near future are not ones I play because they may become more difficult over time.
“I need to accept the adversity and that it’s not going to be perfect; just come with the right spirit every day.”
The dates of the Australian Open are set for January 14–28.
