“Now and Then” is The Beatles‘ farewell song, decades after John Lennon wrote it.
The track featuring the contributions of each member of the British rock band was published on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. GMT (10:00 a.m. ET).
Lennon sings, “I am certain it to be true. Everything is because of you.” And in the event that I succeed, it is entirely due to your influence.”

John Lennon wrote and produced the song in his NYC home in the late 1970s. On Wednesday, the Beatles revealed in a YouTube short film that his wife, Yoko Ono, handed them the demo in 1994.

In 2001, Harrison died, “which kind of took the wind out of our sails,” McCartney says in the video. Over 20 years elapsed before McCartney and Starr revived the song.
In 2021, AI retrieved John Lennon’s voice from a “Let It Be” demo in “The Beatles: Get Back”.
McCartney redid the bass, Ringo added drums, and Capitol Studios musicians added strings without knowing it was a new Beatles song. To honor Harrison, McCartney says the band used his 1995 guitar lines and created a slide guitar solo in the film.
“All of those memories come flooding back,” McCartney added. “How lucky was I to know those men, work with them so closely, and make such music?”
“To still be working on Beatles music in 2023—wow,” McCartney added. John Lennon sang “Now and Then,” the Beatles’ goodbye, years later.
Around 2:00 p.m. GMT on Thursday, the full British rock band performed the new song.

“It’s the last song my dad, Paul, George, and Ringo will make together,” he said.
